I flew from Sydney to Alice springs and took a three-day tour of the area as all the tourist sites are too far away from the town of Alice Springs.

Only in Australia would you see a sign like this (no petrol available for 1130k).......the outback is flippin huge. The States and Australia are about the same size (yep we checked on it). The only difference is that most of Australia's population lives on the coast because the rest is desert. (that's how big the outback is). Oh, that's our crazy driver climbing the sign probably because he had too many cigarettes (we lost count at 10 before eight in the morning).

What twenty other people and I traveled in. It was very comfy as we got enough food (some tours didn't)  and it wasn't too hot. Don't think I had ever been up before sunrise in my life. Definitely worth it.

Climbing up Ayers rock. Took about 45 minutes. Out of 21 people only 6 attempted and 4 made it to the top (brag, brag, brag).  The aboriginals of Australia (just like the State's Native Americans, same history, same problems) consider this rock sacred and ask tourists not to climb it. The logic I used : I didn't fly all the way from Sydney (or the States) to just look at a rock!!! Just call me insensitive.

The rail going up the rock to the top. When the rail ends everyone thinks they've made it to the top but once at the top you realize you were a third the way up. Blast it!!!

Proof I did make up to the top of the rock........photo taken from another Minnesotan (who would've guessed??)
