In Chinatown, near the center of Bangkok. That fish hanging from the string was still moving (fresh!).......very interesting food as I had never seen a sea cucumber or octopus still moving in a market.
First thing any foreigner will notice about Thailand is the people's dedication to their king. Seeing all these things used to 'worship' the king, makes him seem like a cult leader. The reason they love him so much is because, though he doesn't have much legal power he is dedicated to improving their lives through education which helps them financially. (ie. doing plant research to determine which crop grows best in certain areas).
The big Golden Buddha in the royal palace. He is laying down. His head is on the far left. See next photo to see how big he is. Most buddist worship statues like this one everyday.
See the man in the right corner....yeah...he is standing up...that's how big this golden Buddha is. A little back ground on Buddhism. I was told that you can be born a Buddhist and that Mohammed is not a God , just prophet. Buddha gives you experiences to learn from, but he doesn't forgive.
More Buddhas...if I ever see the man I think I will recognize him :)
The best of street food....though this lady is not selling anything because foreigners have to be careful that all food is cooked thoroughly and covered.
Excuse the photo. This is mostly for my parents to understand what one of the few hot showers I had was like. This is one of the better showers that I used for about a month because it had a heater. Got used to cold showers and when I got back to OZ considered a hot shower a luxury.
Sorry another one of 'those photos'. Scary!! Yep...this is... where you do your business. This was really scary at first but when you have no other options for a month you are just happy you don't have to go in the woods (we will get to that later). Surprisingly, I got used to that too!!! The red pan is used to scoop the water in the blue rectangular hole into the toilet and then everything goes right down!!! Rules on toilet paper though......if there is a trash can put it in there, it if there is not one, flush it down. Yep... just put your feet on those grips and squat.
Yum!!! Grilled for a snack!!! Very appetizing.
